Showing stock in multi-store environment

Hi,

I'm trying to solve the well-known problem that Lightspeed doesn't support multi-store in eCom. At the moment we have two stores but only one stock since everything must be available in the online store. This is possible since the stores are physically nearby each other. However, we are opening third store to another city and this solution does not work anymore.

I'm trying to solve the problem in the following steps. 1) Get the info how many products each store has. 2) If there's at least one product in stock, allow ordering. 3) Sort out the stocks in each store in the back office after each order.

The POS has the detailed information of stock in every store. I was wondering does this information pass to the eCom so that I could show it to the customer which store has what in stock. I checked the variables but nothing useful came up. Showing the customer where the products are is vital since they can go to visit the store (and in many cases this is what they do, because we are a clothing store).

My question is that can I add this information to be send to eCom along with the other product related info? So, I need to add a new variable including this information. Also, if this is possible to write or modify variables I would modify the variable containing stock availability in the POS side similarly so that the "product.stock.available" is true if even one of the stores has the product in stock.

This would clear the steps 1 and 2. The only problem remaining is the step 3, but since there aren't too many orders daily we could manage the stock between stores manually.

I'm aware of this previous discussion which is not very helpful solving the problem: https://community.lightspeedhq.com/en/discussion/comment/1275#Comment_1275

It is not possible to modify variables or pull stock information from different Retail locations.

Well, that's a bummer. However, I noticed that I left one critical info out. My setup is eCom and OnSite POS. Does this change anything?

Is it possible to retrieve the stock of each store from the Onsite?

If the previous is possible then the data has to be imported some how to the eCom. I guess it is possible since there's a possibility to add a tracking code, right?

Btw, your links are referring to Retail & eCom solutions. My platform includes eCom & Onsite.

    Hi @Tuomo Saarni

It is unfortunately not possible for eCom to retrieve the stock information of other locations in OnSite.

Can we get a more detailed response to this? We already know it's not a current feature.

But I'm in the same boat as the original poster. This seems like such a simple feature to add that I'm so confused as to why it's not native to the platform.

Is it on the roadmap at least? Why/why not?

I received a message telling me that the feature is not on the roadmap. I wonder why they cannot admit it here publicly nor answer any simple questions people make.

Lightspeed was an excellent choice for small business, but now that we have three stores it has come to its end and we need to find a better solution.

Allowing you to show inventory from multiple Retail locations in eCom is currently on the roadmap. The actual fulfillment of multi-store orders is also something we are looking at.

There are not more details at the moment but we understand that this feature is important when you have multiple retail locations.

    Hope this clarifies the situation!

from what I heard this is on the roadmap for Q1 if this year. Rollout should start at the end of January.

I am about to jump ship from Lightspeed within a couple months if this is not taken care of. Multiple stores must be an option for ecom. Been with Lightspeed since 2013 but will be switching to Shopify since this is not a feature of Lightspeed.

    @Curtis Stolaas @jonassmets

We understand the importance of multi-store for eCom and we're currently working on rolling this out in 3 phases:

    1. Fulfillment: Merchant can configure ranked-store fulfilment option per product/item.
    2. Quantity on hand (QOH): Display the QOH for each item in each location.
    3. In-store Pickup: Shopper can arrange to pick up item(s) in particular location.

These are intended to increase conversions of online sales and allow merchants to have tighter stock management. The target dates for phase 1 and 2 are tentatively set for this month and phase 3 in April.

    Stay tuned!

Thank you Heather for this update. Just to be sure I understand this correctly, does this feature be available with a setup where you have Onsite with eCom? This is the setup we have. Please, see the third comment in this thread.

I've been noticing that sometimes these get mixed up with installation where you have Retail and eCom. Which is the case here?

    Hi @Tuomo Saarni

Sorry, I had missed your comments! These features are rolling out for our cloud-based POS, Lightspeed Retail with eCom, and are not planned for our server-based POS, Lightspeed OnSite with eCom.

Lightspeed OnSite with eCom is connected to one master store from which eCom pulls inventory. You would need to manage your inventory within a designated master store with OnSite, i.e. check the inventory levels of each location and transfer them to the master store to maintain your eCom inventory levels (but that is all outside of eCom).

    Hi @Heather

It is not possible to have all of our products in one inventory since we have three stores and we need to know where every product is located physically. The customer can walk in and ask a certain product. If we don't know where it is we cannot give proper service.

The master store, as well as the other stores, know in which inventory the products are (please see the attached screen capture). You can easily check it on Onsite in which store each product is located. I don't understand why you just don't share this information with eCom. It doesn't even matter if it comes a bit late, but now it doesn't come at all.

We were recommended that we swap to cloud-based Retail. Does this mean that you are giving up Onsite? We tried the Retail but it was cumbersome to use. It took ages to find products and their photos from the system. This cannot happen when you are serving the customer.

Hi @Heather can you provide an update on this?

  • HeatherHeather Administrator, Lightspeed Staff Posts: 94 moderator

@Tuomo Saarni I recommend that you get a Retail demo with one of our specialists so you can see an up to date version of the platform and ask questions. Let me know if you're interested and I'll ask someone to reach out.

@tpbola I've asked and I'll update you when I hear back from the team. Thanks for your patience!

@tpbola The team had to prioritize some urgent development needs which has pushed back the release dates for multi-store fulfilment, quantity on hand, and in-store pickup.

They continue to work on these and understand that it is a priority for our multi-store customers.

@Heather A month has flown by and we are still facilitating our multi-store eCom with duct tape and bubble gum. Is there a new time line for these features?

  • ChanningChanning Member Posts: 1

@Heather Also interested in an update.

We have LS Ecom and LS Retail.

We have 2 physical stores and would like our customers to be able to see (and purchase items from) our inventory levels at both stores.

In the new Covid-19 world we live in, this has become much more important.

Work on this project is ongoing and will take time, there are currently no timelines available and we will communicate when the first feature comes available in the changelog in the back office, in this community post and most likely a blog post will be written.
