Add a "LOCATION" field to item detail

For warehousing purposes, it would be great to have a field in the item detail to note the location of the item. Currently we use Custom SKU and input our aisle/shelf/bin number system within that field.

If possible, having additional fields that denote Primary Location (where the item is primarily stocked and picked from) and Secondary Location(s) for any overstock that might be in a different place.

Also, as inventory is removed from Primary or Secondary locations over time, having a list of historic locations where an item used to be would be great to help find lost product in cases where a location was deleted accidentally.

    I've never used custom fields in retail but maybe that would work?

    It would definitely be useful, just be mindful that Custom fields currently cannot be reported on or be searched in the software. It's mostly for use in each individual item card.

    @AzT Our store uses custom fields to denote Storage Locations, and we use various locations for different things.

    But downside to this is that, as Vanessa mentioned, these fields are not searchable or exportable as a CSV so there is no way to compare these or edit them en masse. If that's not a concern for you, then try that because it works well otherwise. Ideally there would be a field built into the Inventory screen that could be searched but it's currently been almost two years since we requested that feature and it still hasn't been implemented.

    This feature would be great for our POS system. Currently, we're using two custom fields (one for the floor location and one for the overstock location). However, it's only good for when we're attempting to locate a specific item.

    Having this as an implemented feature would be nice, especially if it could be added to the label information. That way, after items have been received, the shelf location can easily be located.

    The ability to search through item locations within the item search would be great as well.


    Hopefully Lightspeed moves forward with this idea.

    Much agreement a bin/location feature is a must have feature for online and retail distribution warehouse users!
