Whole product shows as sold out when default variant is

netrichnetrich Member Posts: 4

Hi there,

When a product's default variant is out of stock, the whole product listing is shown as Sold Out in the product search results. This is not good since there might be several variants of the same product which are still in stock.

For example, let's say that the product is a pair of shoes. By default we set size 10. Size 10 sold outs. Now that shoes will appear as sold out in the product result, even though we have 15 pairs of size 8, 9, 11, and 12.

Is there a way to make the product not appear as sold out when variants still have stock?

The only workaround I found is to change the default variant to one with stock. But this is a manual process and doesn't scale when we have thousands of SKUs.

Thanks in advance,

NM

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried but unfortunately, that didn't have an effect on the issue.

    Hi

I think that it will work only the next day after you do the setting

    Hi @Netrich,

There is a setting located under Settings > Workflow > Back Office called “Enable default variant substitution” (more information can be found here). Turning this on will make it so once a Default variant runs out of stock, the system will automatically set the next best-selling variant as the new Default.

Keep in mind that this does not work retroactively. Any products that currently have an out of stock variant as the Default would still need to be updated manually, however this will no longer be the case after you've turned this option on.

    Kind Regards,

    Genevieve

This was helfpul. Thank you. Shame it doesn't work retroactively.

This is not working for us - we have this setting checked, and new products recently added are still showing as sold out if the default variant is sold out.

If you have this issue, we could "trigger" all the items retroactively and the setting is updated.
