Custom Fields Specific to a Category

Would like to be able to create custom fields specific to a category instead of across all items.

    @ccl2022 Have you found that you're actually able to do anything with Custom Fields? We used to use Custom Fields extensively in Lightspeed OnSite, but have found them basically useless in Retail. There doesn't seem to be any way to filter by them, report on them, or anything of that nature. Would be curious how you all are able to utilize them as they can be very useful when they can be engaged.

    For us, when we were testing out Retail for the time-limited trial we found a gap was the lack of product attributes. More or less just relying on product tags. Back then the Retail pre-sales tech suggested we implement custom fields. Which we did, heavily relying on them when launching into production.

    Winds up these fields are only visible/accessible in the individual product web form. Can't get to them in canned reporting, in Analytics, etc. So we had to rely on the API in order to get at them for reporting and Shopify e-com integration. Downside there is retrieving the linked custom field values along with the basic product record slows down performance. Even when adding/modifying products in the web UI, it can take up to 45 seconds to successfully save the changes due to the custom fields being linked.
