Offsite/festival payment processing
Hello-
We currently use Cayan Genius Handheld for card processing, which requires WiFi to work. We are looking at doing offsite festival sales where there will not be a WiFi connection available. Cayan does make a Genius Mini which is Bluetooth enabled, but it is not an accepted device by Lightspeed yet. Does any have any ideas or work arounds? I really hate having to use Square for these situations as I then have to manually reconcile all of the inventory sold, plus adding the various SKUs into Square.
Thank you

payments have to be processed through an internet connection so often enough when merchants need to process payments offsite they opt for a mobile hotspot (a cell phone sharing an LTE connection for instance).
Because you use the handheld version of the Cayan Genius this is even easier for you because you can essentially connect to the Wi-Fi produced by your mobile hotspot (phone).
This will change the IP address of your terminal so you might need to re-add it to your lightspeed POS. However, once this is done you should be able to process payments anywhere you can connect to your mobile network.
If you need any further help with this don't hesitate to reply below.

Thanks
So here's the test I performed and the results:
I shared my tablet's wireless connection with my phone. I verified the IP address on my tablet (connected to LTE) and compared it to the phone's IP address (connected to the Tablet). The IP addresses were completely different which leads me to believe that what you suggest wouldn't work.
Unfortunately, I was unable to test this with the handheld Cayan as I don't have one available so it's still worth a shot to try it out.
That being said I think it would best if the tablet and the genius are connected to a separate hotspot so that they end up with the same IP prefix.
